History of Blackjack Game

Blackjack is played widely in both virtual (online) as well as real (land based) casinos. In few regions, Blackjack is also called as Pontoon and Twenty-One. Blackjack is popular due to the skills and publicity surrounding the card counting, which means calculating the advantageous probabilities depending on the ratio between low-value cards and high-value cards.

It is said that Blackjack is a predecessor of 'Vingt-et-un', a French game that means '21'. This game was first introduced in France around 17th century. However, till date, the precise and evidenced information about the origin of Blackjack is a mystery. Many historians think that Blackjack originated from certain analogous card games, which were played in most of the regions of France. The debate is still going on to locate the accurate history of Blackjack.

Few gaming experts tried to investigate the history of Blackjack and proposed that Blackjack is quite similar to Vingt-et-Un, Seven-and-a-half and Baccarat. However, there are many differences in these games, yet they share few common features.

Blackjack entered into the United States of America after 1789 after the French Revolution. However, Blackjack took no time to become popular in the USA. Initially, the game offered many gamblers with various bonuses such as if a player holds a jack and an ace of spades, the player receives a 10:1 payout. However, this bonus was abolished in no time, as many professional gamblers caught manipulating the bets and odds with the help of this bonus to gain huge amount of rewards easily. In its developing stage, Blackjack lacked federal rules and regulations that helped the game to evolve at the end of eighteenth century. In addition, the U.S. federation discovered the influence of gambling industry over corruption. This was the beginning of the change in history of Blackjack.

Most of the U.S. states avoided introducing casinos games. However, Las Vegas was the only state, wherein casinos operated Blackjack.
